Communication Skills for Peers

Overview

Communication Skills for Peers is a four-session miniseries, which builds upon the skills learned in Inclusive Listening. (Inclusive Listening is a prerequisite to Communication Skills for Peers.)

Inclusive Reflecting teaches trainees how to say the feelings, values, and topics back to someone, without repeating blame or victimhood, and without making the person feel judged, misunderstood, or attacked.

Open Ended Questions teaches trainees how to use questions in a way that helps to clear up misunderstandings, get more information, unpack hard conversations, and come up with creative solutions.

Nurturing Emotional Intelligence gives trainees tools to nurture and develop emotional intelligence, as well as strategies that build emotional wisdom and wherewithal. Trainees will learn how to use their voices effectively and be mindful/present during hard conversations.

Speaking to Be Heard supports trainees to be self-aware about how they respond when they feel misunderstood, disrespected, etc. It teaches trainees strategies for responding in ways that avoid making others feel attacked. Trainees will learn how to use their voices effectively and be mindful/present during hard conversations.
