The Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) is an active member of the Substance Use Program and provides peer support services to patient with Substance Use and serious/chronic mental illness. Under the supervision of the Peer Services Manager, the CPRS will function as a role model to peers; exhibiting competency in personal recovery and use of coping skills; serve as a patient advocate, providing patient information and peer support for patients in the Chase Brexton outpatient Substance Use Program or outpatient Behavioral Health program. Additional responsibilities include working with an interdisciplinary team to develop and implement a treatment plan, teach and role model the value of every individual’s recovery experience, and providing outreach services to non-adherent patients by assessing structural barriers to care in order to address and develop an action plan to eliminate such barriers.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED
• Required: Related experience in administrative support role.
• Desired: At least one year experience in healthcare setting.
• Required: CPR Certification
• Having personal experience relevant to services provided with a minimum of 3 years of recovery
• Participation in a recovery program including a self-care regiment is encouraged
• MABPCB Certified Peer Recovery Specialist, or obtained within 6 months of hire
• Experience facilitating peer support groups and smoking cession groups
• Completion of the BH2- Breaking the Habit in Behavioral Health: New Hope for Clients Who Smoke- Multiple Session Group Smoking Cessation program, or completed within 6 months of hire
• Experience with the LGBT community
