Ethical Responsibilities Refresher Course

Overview

This 6-hour continuing education course fulfills the Ethical Responsibility domain requirement for CPRS recertification. Designed for practicing peer recovery specialists, this training explores both the personal and professional dimensions of ethics and boundaries, beginning with personal ethics as the foundation before advancing to professional standards.

Participants examine the definition and purpose of ethics at the micro and macro level, develop a personal code of ethics, and apply a 10-step framework for establishing and maintaining personal boundaries. The course then moves into professional ethics, covering cultural responsiveness, equal access to recovery services, types of prejudice and their impact on peers, balancing personal and professional standards, the four types of recovery support services, role boundary integrity, and the full IC&RC Code of Ethics. Practical application activities, Venn diagram exercises, and ethical decision-making scenarios are woven throughout.

This training is designed to strengthen the ethical foundation of the peer recovery workforce and support peers in navigating complex, real-world ethical situations with clarity and integrity.
