An Inside Look at Stigma

Overview

Through this highly interactive 3-hour training (in-person or virtual) informed by current research, participants will gain a deeper understanding of the intersectional impacts of behavioral health stigma, identify ways external messages are commonly internalized in harmful ways counterproductive to wellness and recovery, and reflect on research-backed solutions in the context of their own work and lives, resulting in:

  • Increased awareness of what internalized stigma is and what it isn’t: name, identify, and understand it.
  • Resonant validation of our experiences with internalized stigma, whether lived or observed.
  • Deep exploration of individualized choices integral to challenging internalized stigma.
  • Definitive action steps, empowering participants to walk out knowing we can change internalized messages if we are willing to take action.

Prerequisites: This workshop builds on the foundational concepts and objectives of Stigma: In Our Work, In Our Lives; it is strongly recommended that participants first complete that training.
