About the event
project: liberation LGBT Advocacy Training
During this 8-hour course, participants will have an opportunity to deepen their skills, knowledge, and competencies in being a peer advocate. This course is directed for those in the peer recovery leadership or supervisory field. This is a hybrid course with both synchronous and asynchronous portions. Throughout the course, peers will learn:
- How to become an advocate
- Social justice advocacy
- The promotion of person-centered care
- Trauma-informed care and healing-centered engagement as advocacy
- Promotion of individual rights and the peer’s Bill of Rights
- Understand and explain the importance of self-advocacy
- Understand and explain the importance of the use of pronouns and other inclusive language
- Differentiate different types and levels of advocacy
- Develop advocacy tool kits and connect with other resource brokers
- Understand various pathways, including holistic, for recovery/wellness
- Practice connecting with peers through communication skills learned with processes such as eCPR

- Group supervision
