Intentional Peer Support - CORE
Overview
Intentional Peer Support (IPS) is one of the Core Classes for the CPRS. This Core Training involves attending classes 4 hours a day for ten weeks. Participants must attend all ten classes in order to receive CEUs. Attendance will be monitored. Active participation is expected as the training involves engaging in activities, discussions, and actual practice using IPS.
Participants will be able to:
1. Explain how peer support is different from other kinds of help.
2. Define worldview.
3. Provide an example of how worldview influences behavior.
4. Explain why language is so important, especially when doing peer support.
5. Demonstrate “first contact.”
6. Demonstrate two listening skills for peer support.
7. Define “trauma informed.”
8. Describe a situation where a “power dynamic” occurred.
9. Identify two skills one can use to “get through” uncomfortable situations.
10.Explain the difference between safety in peer support and safety in services.
11.Give an example of how they can use the tasks of peer support to practice self-care.
12. Define co-reflection.
