Combining Peer Support and Community Health Work
Overview
The Jude House has developed an asynchronous learning platform, that includes a 30 hour program dedicated to combining peer support and community health workers skills. This self paced learning environment provides in depth education across all four domains of peer support. Upon approval as a CORE training that can be applied towards a CPRS Certification, the program is prepared to launch.
The six modules of the course utilize a multidimensional approach to learning, including discussion posts, writing assignments and quizzes throughout the course. Completion of the course is based on not only review of the materials but a successful score on a final exam which will be virtually proctored by the program facilitator and developer. The Jude House has develope3d the program utilizing the Canvas Instructure platform that assists in maintaining records of time spent in each section, scoring of assessments and overall participation of each learner and group. The program also provides education on the Continuum of Care, and methods of Outreach in the community. The program is designed to be completed either as one 30 hour program, or it can be combined with education specific for Community Health Workers. We are in the process of developing a 100 hour asynchronous platform for certification as a Community Health Worker.
Navigation of the course is self paced, however learners are required to view all program topics and complete assignments before it will allow another module to open. For example, students must view/and or complete each page of Mentoring and Education before accessing Wellness and Recovery. This process ensures that participants retain the information and demonstrate applied knowledge of the topic,
