Leading with Purpose: Cultivating Safe and Equitable Spaces for Young Adults
Overview
“It is essential for those of us in positions of power to not only claim that we create safe spaces for the Young Adults we support and work with, but to actively take steps towards becoming more equitable and trauma-informed. This series of trainings will equip managers, peer support supervisors, and anyone overseeing or supporting Young Adults to reflect on their leadership practices and foster a workplace that prioritizes inclusivity, mental well-being, and authentic empowerment. By examining these relationships, we can cultivate environments where Young Adults feel genuinely heard, valued, and supported in their personal and professional growth.” – Kris Locus, TAY Coordinator
Join On Our Own of Maryland’s TAY Project for a two-part Leadership Icks virtual series led by anti-oppression facilitator and coach Yejin Lee (she/they). Participants will have a chance to explore and understand their multitudinous and ambivalent feelings about leadership, and surface ways to equitably respond to, support, protect, and fortify Young Adults by properly locating power dynamics, and identifying/utilizing their own individualized strengths in service of equitable praxis. The series will be divided into two interactive digital workshops:
Part I: Locating & Processing Our Relationship to (and Feelings About) Leadership as Managers with Positional Power
Part II: Exploring Values-Embodied & Expansive Expressions of Our Power to Support, Protect, and be Accountable to Young Adults
