This workshop provides an introduction to eating disorders as complex psychological conditions that significantly impact quality of life and affect all demographics. The workshop describes several common eating disorders, outlining their specific populations, symptoms, and potential health impacts. We discuss barriers to diagnosis and recovery, including misconceptions and misrepresentations of what eating disorders look like and who they affect. We conclude by discussing available treatment methods, reviewing research that indicates that recovery is possible, and emphasizing the crucial role of peer support in the healing process.
